Exercise 2-1: Introducing Sencha Touch

In this exercise, you will perform the following tasks:
  • Review the Sencha Touch Documentation
  • Review the Sencha Touch Examples


Filtering configs, properties, methods, and eventsReview the Sencha Touch Documentation

  1. Open Chrome and browse to
  2. Bookmark the page in your browser.
  3. Click on the API Documentation Tab.
  4. From the tree view navigation on the left, click on the Ext.Msg singleton
  5. Review the documentation. Note the following:
    • The Search box performs a full text search of the API docs
    • Most Sencha Touch components inherit from other classes or components
    • You can filter the list of properties, methods, and events for a specific component by clicking on the Show menu, located in the top right corner of the UI, and turning off the Inherited checkbox
Experiment with the Embedded Examples
  1. Click on the Code Editor link for the first example embedded in the Date Picker.
  2. Modify the code to appear as follows:
    Ext.Msg.alert('Hello World','My First Sencha Code');
  3. Click on the Live Preview link. How did the output change?
Review Kitchen Sink
  1. Click on the Examples tab.
  2. Click on the Kitchen Sink link.
  3. Review the Kitchen Sink application. Note that you can click on the Source button in any example to view its source code.
Review the Sencha Charts Examples
  1. Click on the Stock Chart example and review the functionality.
  2. Click on the Particle Animation example and review the functionality.
Visit the Sencha Market
  1. Browse to
  2. Click on the Components button
  3. Click on the Product tab
  4. Click on Sencha Touch 2.1 and browse the extensions that are available.

Visit the Sencha Forums

  1. Browse to
  2. Click on the link for the Sencha Touch 2.x forums
  3. Review some of the messages in the Sub-Forums.
